Fulfilling and rewarding lives: the strategy for adults with autism in England (3rd March 2010)

The first autism strategy for England will kick-start fundamental change in public services helping adults with autism to live independent lives and find work.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability and although some people can live relatively independently, others will have high dependency needs requiring a lifetime of specialist care. There are approximately 400,000 adults with ASC in England, around half of whom have a learning disability.

Published on 3 March 2010, the strategy sets a clear framework for all mainstream services across the public sector to work together for adults with autism.

SMOKING/TOBACCO

A smokefree future: a comprehensive tobacco control strategy for England (1st February 2010)
This new tobacco control strategy for England establishes a vision of eradicating tobacco harms and creating a smokefree future, so that we can support people to live healthier and longer lives. The strategy follows on from a successful public consultation in 2008 on the future of tobacco control, which drew nearly 100,000 individual responses.

To deliver this vision, the strategy sets out three overarching objectives to make significant progress towards a smokefree society:

1. To stop the inflow of young people recruited as smokers.
2. To motivate and assist every smoker to quit.
3. To protect families and communities.

Working to Put People First: The Strategy for the Adult Social Care Workforce in England outlines the workforce implications of Putting People First and provides a high-level framework to support the transformation of the adult social care workforce.

World Health Organization: UK institutional strategy 2008-13 (24th February 2009)
The UK Government has recently agreed the first cross-Government Institutional Strategy (IS) with the World Health Organization (WHO). The overall aim of the strategy is to set out how the UK and WHO will work together, and to provide a basis for multi-year (2008-2013) core funding relationship with WHO.

Saving Carbon, Improving Health (30th January 2009)
The NHS Carbon Reduction Strategy for England sets an ambition for the NHS to help drive change towards a low carbon society. The strategy shows the scale of reduction in carbon required for the NHS to progress towards the Climate Change Act requirements and recommends key actions for the NHS to become a leading sustainable and low carbon organisation.
