Electronic Order Communications in Primary Care (30th January 2008)
The Department of Health is working in partnership with NHS Connecting for Health on a project to develop electronic ordering of pathology tests, and reporting of test results, in primary care. The project will work with two 'early adopter' sites and with primary care system and pathology system suppliers, with the aim of supporting effective national roll-out.

Operational Plans 2008/09 – 2010/11 (31st January 2008)
The Operating Framework, published the end of last year, introduced a new approach to planning and managing the Department of Health's priorities both nationally and locally – the Vital Signs. The planning guidance published today explains how organisations can use the Vital Signs to develop local operational plans to deliver against national priorities and how to select - or even create - local priorities. The document sets out how performance will be managed against each of the three tiers of the Vital Signs, limiting central performance management to the tier one national priorities and beyond that only to those areas or organisations where performance is weak.

NHS reference costs 2006-07 (1st February 2008)
These documents give details on how and on what over £41 billion of NHS expenditure was used in the 2006/07 financial year. The 2006/07 reference costs / reference costs index publication is the richest source of financial data on the NHS ever produced. As in previous years, its main purpose is to provide a basis for comparison within (and outside) the NHS between organisations, and down to the level of individual treatments.
