This Royal College of Nursing publication will help nurses to understand the functions of the bowel and the need for appropriate assessment, and provides guidance on how nurses can positively help patients with bowel disorders. It aims to provide a comprehensive review of adult bowel care and maps out the wide range of skills required for specific aspects of bowel care, while helping to facilitate best practice.

Catheter Care: RCN Guidance for nurses (15th April 2008)
Continence is one of the fundamentals of basic nursing care and ensuring continence can significantly increase quality of life and patient dignity. Through this publication, the RCN aims to encourage widespread adoption of the new National Occupational Standards across all NHS and independent health care sectors, by enabling a full understanding of the standards and providing quality care for patients.

How to make your case for education and training toolkit (April 2008)
This new toolkit is launched by leading education charity Education for Health. It contains evidence based, disease specific business proposals for nurses to use to establish their current levels of knowledge, understanding and experience, and plan development of their competencies within the framework of the health needs of their practice population in a way which is meaningful to the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QoF), the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) and National Workforce Competencies.
