A summary of changes to direct payments (19th October 2009)From 9 November 2009 there will be important changes to the Direct Payments scheme. New regulations will extend the scheme to people who lack the capacity to consent, and to people with mental health problems who are subject to mental health and certain criminal justice legislation. Guidance for councils on direct payments has been updated to reflect these changes. This leaflet sets out these changes and explains where you can find more information.

An evaluation report for the Department of Health (June 2009)NHS Improvement has been working collaboratively with the University of the West of England (UWE), NHS SKills for Health and North Bristol NHS Trust in order to pilot and test a new approach to the development of clinical nurse specialist skills to support service improvement and to meet the new breast cancer waiting times.
A new work-based learning 12 month programme has been developed and the third round of this programme is now underway.
Document The Excess Burden of Cancer in Men in the UK (15th June 2009)This report, published by the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN) and Cancer Research UK together with the Men's Health Forum, reveals that men are almost 40% more likely than women to die from cancer.
The report, to mark Men's Health Week, also reveals that they are 16% more likely to develop the disease in the first place.

Closing the gender gap in Bradford (27th November 2008)
It has been known for some time that men are not good at accessing health services. However, councils and the NHS are working together to design projects to take healthcare out into the community. Bradford Metropolitan Borough Council has run its ‘Health of Men’ initiative since the 1990s.

The Countdown to Equality (12th March 2008)
The Prostate Cancer Charter for Action has launched the Countdown to Equality to reduce the number of men dying from prostate cancer and to improve the experience of those who develop it. The Charter's new calls are focussed in four key areas: Significantly reduce the number of men being diagnosed with prostate cancer which has already spread; Improve the cancer experience of men with prostate cancer to at least the level reported for other common cancers; Level up clinical outcomes across the country so that all NHS services match the current best; and Plan effectively to deliver world class prostate cancer services in the future.

Men's Health Forum launches new training programme (4th March 2008)
The Men's Health Forum has launched a new training programme designed to help professionals from all fields reach that so-called 'hard to reach' group, men. Courses include: Introduction to Men's Health; Men, Mental Health and Suicide; Men and Sexual Health; Working with Young Men; and Promoting Men's Health in the Workplace
